Ann Arent has been a board member for 4 years. She has worked for 31 years at UMMC and is also active in Resurrection Parish as treasurer of Sodality, a sacristan, and choir member. She and husband John live in Batavia and have two daughters. In her spare time Ann loves to cross-stitch.

Pam Frisby has served as Chair of the Board of Directors for five years. She is Payroll Supervisor for Keeler Construction in Albion, a lifelong Batavia resident, mother of two and proud grandmother of one. Pam was a member of the Elba Elegants, Quota International of Batavia, and is a tour guide at Genesee Country Village and Museum for Civil War, Halloween and Yuletide. Her hobbies include dog grooming, scrapbooking, gardening and banjo lessons.

Other Batavia Concert Band Board members are Mary Ann Fay and Pamela Wentworth. They serve as the Band’s guiding hand and stabilizing force.

Management Officers

Bob Knipe - Operations Manager Bob, a detail-guy for the Band since the early 90’s, edits the Program, lines up concert gigs, takes care of equipment, facility arrangements & contracts, and watches for rain clouds. Bob also plays French horn with & is on the Board of the Genesee Symphony. Bob is a GCC dean and lives in Batavia with wife Linda, has two grown sons, two grandkids, and three stepsons, all of whom are musicians or musicians-to-be. Once a band geek, always a band geek.

Joshua Pacino - Librarian Josh has played trombone with the Batavia Concert Band since 1998 and has been Librarian since 2003, in which role he keeps the music straight, organized, and in front of us. He performs with the Kendall Fire Department Band and numerous other music groups and pit orchestras. A graduate of GCC with a degree in Theatre and Deaf Studies, Josh is currently a music major at Buffalo State College. He’s also in the Batavia Kiwanis Club and is a proud annual sponsor of the BCB.

She helps out behind the scenes with the bake sale, as well as sorting tickets for the restaurant raffle, manning the booth at Picnic in the Park and Summer in the City, etc. She is (not surprisingly) also involved with the Kendall Fireman’s and LeRoy Town Band. Anya teaches third grade at Elba Central School and is mom to Ryan.

Bob Pastecki - Finance Director Bob has created the budget and coordinated raising funds for the Band since 1998, and has seen the budget grow from $8,000 to nearly $14,000. Bob joined the Batavia Concert Band as a substitute trumpet player in1997 and hasn’t slowed down. He works the early morning and noon news broadcasts at Channel 8, Rochester. He married current BCB Secretary Anya Scherff Pastecki in 2004, joined by son Ryan Andrew in April 2008. Bob also conducts the band from time to time.

Dave Scherff - Personnel Manager Dave contacts current and recruits new players, and keeps track of them all. He and his trombone joined in the ’90s, and also play with the Kendall Fireman’s, LeRoy Town & Batavia Swing Bands, Slideshow Trombone Choir, Care-A-Van Ministries, and St. Paul Brass Ensemble. Former Social Studies teacher Dave also sings in the ER Choir and is Dad to Anya Pastecki, Lisa Burlison (father-in-law to Bob & Wayne), two other percussion players & lives in LeRoy with Ann and 2 of his 5 children.

Jason Smith - Treasurer Jason has served as treasurer for the Batavia Conccert Band from 1994-97 and 2005-present and has played trombone with the band since 1991. He’s also with the Kendall Fire Department Band and has played in many pit orchestras and the trombone choir Slideshow. A former social studies teacher by trade, Jason now serves as Principal of the Elba Elementary School and was Principal of Elba High School, 2004-08. Wife Lori (and future band members Megan, Matthew, and Madeline) can be seen each week at the concerts, usually in the front row!
